SEYCHELLES : Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Cup

PLS HAWKS, Baya and MBU Rockers have advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Cup following easy wins over the weekend at the Victoria Gymnasium.PLS Hawks, who this year surrendered the Men’s division 1A league title to Premium Cobras, mercilessly trounced Men’s division 1B opponents Bel Air Blazers 123-35 on Saturday to move on to the quarterfinals.

Ugandan Stephen Omony scored a season-high 45 points, including four 3-pointers in the win, whilst veteran shooting guard Heribert Derjacques netted six treys for his 18-point contribution to send PLS Hawks through.

PLS Hawks will next play Men’s division 1A side SMB Razorbacks who won a bye straight into the quarterfinals.

It is to note that the previous season-high of 42 belonged to Steven Servina who played a major role in Angels’ shocking 86-76 win over Premium Cobras in the league. Servina is actually studying in China.

On Sunday, Baya easily clinched their quarterfinal berth with a 120-51 victory over Ex-Champs. Giovanni Laval led Men’s division 1A Top-of-the-table winners Baya in scoring with 35 points, including six treys, and captain Dave Roseline added 32.

Baya will now take on Cascade Bullets on Saturday November 18. Ex-Baya player Norbert Loizeau had the hot hands for Ex-Champs with 25 points.

In Sunday’s other match, MBU Rockers had no trouble eliminating Falcons Youth 86-41. Spearheaded by captain and playmaker Nigel Sinon who contributed 38 points to the win, Rockers dominated the young Falcons all throughout the match.

However, they need to improve their game if they want to progress any further in the competition and their first real test will come against Angels, who retained their place in the top flight via the play-offs.

Marcus Woodcock was Falcons Youth’s top scorer with 14 points.

The quarterfinal line-up will be completed on Thursday when Pointe Larue Falcons play Premium Cobras.

Men’s division 1B league winners Pointe Larue Falcons, who won by walk-over against Praslin Warriors last Saturday, will surely use the match against Premium Cobras to have a taste of top flight basketball.
Meanwhile, Bel Air beat Juniors to meet Mont Fleuri in the best-of-three semifinals of the women’s version of the competition.
