Quarter-Finals Preview/Eight teams look for Semi-Finals spot at Africa Champions Cup Women 2015
On
Friday, Ferroviário de Maputo will face off Nigerian side Dolphins;
INJS Basketball will take on First Bank, Asb Radi will do battle with,
Interclube, reigning champions and INSS will square off Primeiro de
Agosto.
Ferroviário
de Maputo closed their group phase on Wednesday with a 63-60 loss
against First Bank, one of the toughest title contenders; while Dolphins
were upset 81- 60 by Primeiro de Agosto.
However, this will be one of the much fought games of the tournament as the two teams will enter court with a 4-1 mark.
Now
that Nigeria’s Helen Ogunjimi is qualified for the tournament, have one
asset more to go further in this event as the core of their team is
made of talented players including, Ana Suzana Jaime, Odelia Mafanela,
Ndidi Madu and veteran Rute Muianga.
Couple
of hours later, INJS will clash First Bank for their first ever
Semi-Final berth. The Cameroonians who finish third in group A will have
a tough task as Coach Peter Ahmedu and his girls are confident that
they can win it all this year.
For
this purpose the club signs high level players including Joyce
Ekworomadu, Senegal’s Ramata Daou and Aya Traore, the MVP of AfroBasket
Women 2015.
But Ahmedu is aware that there are still much of rooms to improve as he offered after their group phase’s last game.
“The
most important is that we are qualified for Quarter-Finals. But we
still have some adjustments to make. And no matter who will stand our
way, we will challenge them,” Ahmedu said to Fiba.com.
In
the third Quarter-Finals’ game, the reigning Champions and African
powerhouse, Interclube will meet the Congolese side Asb Radi.
The
Angolan advanced to Quarter-Finals with 4-1 mark. Although they lost to
Ferroviário de Maputo, nothing has changed in the plans of Nadir Manuel
and her teammates. Winning a fifth continental title is the lone target
in this event.
The last Quarter-Finals will see INSS of DR Congo taking off star studded Primeiro de Agosto.
D’Agosto
who clinched five win in as so many games is clearly the most talented
team of the tournament. The group is made of 9 players who featured with
Angola’s national team at AfroBasket Women 2015, in addition to
Mozambique’s Leia Dongue.
The
Angolan military clubs also have in their roster Maimouna Diarra, who
helped Senegal clinched their twelfth AfroBasket Women title couple of
months ago.
