UGANDA : University Basketball Set for All-Star Game

After five weekends of non-stop action at various basketball courts, the 2015 Zuku University Basketball League (ZUBL) comes to an end this afternoon with an all-star game between Uganda and Kenya at Lugogo arena, writes ELLY KYEYUNE.
The most anticipated match-up in the men's category is likely to be between Ndejje University's Jonah Otim and Valentine Nyakinda aka Boozer from Strathmore University.
Boozer was the outstanding player in the Kenyan edition of the tournament due to his all-around game. He also plays for the Kenyan national team but Otim has been the revelation of the tournament.
He was also selected to present Uganda in the NBA Basketball Without Borders camp a few years ago, which is a testament to his skill level. He is a slasher and is almost unstoppable to the hoop. He also can be a major threat at the three-point line.
In the ladies category, the game could be decided by the duel between UCU's Velma Owino and Mollette Achieng from Strathmore. Velma is considered one of Uganda's best post players right now.
Starting it out in Kenya and part of the national team, she came to Uganda and the sky has been the limit since. Mastering her baby jumper and spin move, she is hard to block and even harder to stop.
Meanwhile, Achieng is Strathmore's leading post player and her job is to stay under the rim, clean up the boards, and receive the kick out for the easy, close-range shot and she does all of these things very well.
Owino has a strong advantage of Achieng based on her size and footwork. The latter is still coming into a strong post player and lacks the confidence that Owino possesses due to her vast experience.
If Owino wants it, she can definitely have it against Achieng in this match-up. Tournament sponsors Zuku will also reward the best individual players.
