TANZANIA / ZANZIBAR : Polisi Beat New West in Zanzibar League

Zanzibar — POLISI Zanzibar defeated New West 48-31 in a closely contested Zanzibar Basketball League match at the Maisara courts here on Wednesday. Both teams put up a stunning performance but it was Polisi who emerged victorious.
Ramadhan Saleh of New West was outstanding though his 13 points could not prevent his team to surrender to the law enforcers. Saleh Abbas of Polisi Zanzibar scored ten points.
In another match, Rangers sneaked out 58-43 winners against JKU. Mohammed Bakari of Rangers scored 20 points, while the highest scorer for JKU was Yahya Anania, who netted 12 points.
The league, which is sponsored by Zanlink, was expected to continue yesterday with two matches on the card at the Maisara courts.
The first match to stat at 3.00 pm pitted Mwembe Tanga against Polisi, while Mbuyuni and New West were to clash at 4.00pm.
In another development, Zanzibar Election Committee (ZEC) has organised a bonanza for Urban West soccer teams tomorrow.
The coordinator of the bonanza, Hussein Ali Ahmada, said the event is organised as part of activities lined up for the launch of voters' registration campaign in the region.
Ahmada said a total of 16 teams have registered to take part in the bonanza. He named the teams as Kwerekwe City, Gulioni, Medison, New Generation, Survaivor, Chrisc, Mwembebeni United and FC Villa.
Others are Mitondooni, Beach Villa, New Academy, FC Lion, Maungani Kids, Shakani City, Bweleo and Chukwani.
