TANZANIA : New West Fail to Honour Fixture

Zanzibar — JKU ladies were awarded maximum points after their opponents New West failed to show up in the on-going Zanzibar basketball league at the Maisara Grounds on Monday.
The match that was scheduled to start from 3.00pm could not take place as planned as New West failed to honour the fixture without any notice. Competition Committee Secretary Abdallah Juma said JKU ladies were awarded two points.
"According to the competition's regulations, a team that fails to honour the fixture automatically loses maximum points," he said. In another match that started at 4.00pm at the same venue, African Magic defeated Mafunzo 62-23.
The League was set to continue on Tuesday with a match pitting Cavarious against Mbuyuni, while Nyuki were to face Stone Town. In another development, Black Sailor FC leadership has put up strategies to ensure that they finish among the top three and earn promotion to the Zanzibar Premier League next season.
This was said here yesterday by the team's spokesperson, Abuubakar Khatibu, when highlighting the team's preparations for the best First Division Four-League that kicked off on Tuesday.
"Our coaches are making every effort to ensure that the team is in good shape and at the leadership level we have put in place measures that ensure our players are motivated and ready to fight for the best results," he said.
Black Sailor managed to reach the best four after finishing second in the First Division League group stage. They were in Group A and were due to face KVZ, who finished top of Group B.
