TANZANIA : Don Bosco Retain Basketball Title

DON Bosco Lioness retained the National Basketball League (NBL) women's title for the third consecutive year after beating Jeshi Stars 83-78 in a thrilling final at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
It was a closely contested game with the two sides fighting neck-to-neck in search of victory.
The capacity crowd witnessed an entertaining game as players of both sides displayed their determination and skills to the maximum to force the scoreboard to swap every so often.
The first quarter ended with the two sides tied at 18- 18, but the champions came back strongly in the second quarter to surge ahead 31-27, but they seemed to relax as minutes ticked away and were caught at 31-31.
However, relying on the services of star players Amina Lyamaiga, Orlyn Titus, Halima Mrisho and Rehema Silomba, Don Bosco Lioness regained their tempo and forced Jeshi Stars to the receiving end to enjoy a 38-36 lead at the breather.
Jeshi Stars retaliated with much vigour in the third quarter thanks to tireless efforts by Faraja Malack, Veronica Patrick and Yvonne Christopher which saw them lead 62-60.
A wind of change finally swept across the pitch in the last quarter in which the Lioness dictated terms and scored points with much ease to seal victory.
JKT and Don Bosco Lioness will face their Zanzibar counterparts for tickets to represent Tanzania at the Zone Five tournament to be held in Mombasa, Kenya, in August.
