Nigeria: D'Tigress Sure of AAG, Afrobasket Tickets
By Joshua Odeyemi
Nigeria's senior women's basketball team, D'Tigress have assured that it will qualify for the 2015 All Africa Games (AAG) and Afrobasket events.
The team is currently in camp training for the qualifiers for the events billed to take place in Cote d'Ivoire between 28th of this month to the 6th of June.
Unlike their male counterparts who only played a two-legged qualifier against Burkina Faso to secure the two tickets, the girls will have to survive a round robin qualifier. But the girls who spoke with Daily Trust expressed optimism that they will earn the two tickets.
Adaora Elonu, D'Tigress power forward who plays for CB Conquero in Spain, said "hopefully, we will qualify."
Similarly, the team's captain, Helen Ogunjimi who last played for Bandar Abbas in Iran said the team will pick the tickets judging by the hard work the girls are presently putting in.
"Every body is coming in with a lot of excitement and positive attitude and it's been a great atmosphere. It's been good so far and I'm satisfied," the Shooting guard noted.
Also, Ndidi Madu who is based in the USA but plays in Spain with Cadi La Seu said: "I think we are prepared. No question, we will definitely survive the qualifier and get the tickets."
Head Coach of the team, Adewunmi Aderemi who also expressed optimism that with the caliber of players in camp, the country will earn the double tickets, confirmed that: "Everything we need to make sure we prepare well and qualify have been provided."
Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) President, Tijani Umar said the number of teams involved in the qualifiers has not been ascertained but Nigeria will probably lock horns against; Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia and others in the same Zone 2 qualifier
