UGANDA : Makerere Make it Six in a Row in University Basketball League

Makerere is eager to bounce back from a disappointing 2014 inaugural season, in which they were eliminated at the semifinal stage by eventual winners Ndejje University.
This time round, they are the only unbeaten in the Kampala Central II conference and overcame St Lawrence University (Slau) 83-70 on Friday to remain on course of being the top seed for the quarterfinals.
The top eight teams from the three conferences will qualify for the knockout stage and with giants such as Ndejje, Nkumba University and Uganda Christian University (UCU) assured of qualification, what matters most at the moment is to get a fairly easy draw to the final.
That could pit them against the likes of Busoga University, Cavendish University or even Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) in the last eight phase. Eighteen teams are taking part in the men's category.
Meanwhile, Makerere's ladies team remain overwhelming favourites to retain the title and easily defeated Slau 49-22. However, the ladies field is wide open with several unbeaten sides which include Makerere University Business School (Mubs), UCU, Ndejje and Nkumba. It is still early days but any of those teams can take it on their day.
Fifteen ladies team are taking part. Action resumes on Tuesday with several fixtures lined up but the peak of the ties will be Ndejje's showdown against Nkumba.
