KENYA : Safe Spaces Step Down to the Nairobi League


SAFE Spaces have quit the Kenya Basketball Federation premier league and joined the provinvial Nairobi Basketball Associationleague that throws off on March 28 at Railway Club.
NBA chairman Ronny Owino confirmed the self sponsored women's teams who moved from the provincial league to the top tier three years ago have opted to return to the lower level. He also revealed eight new teams have joined the league this year.
"Safe Spaces said they could no longer play at the top level and have opted to return to the NBA. The KBF are already aware of the move and are looking for a replacement before their league starts this weekend," noted Owino.
He revealed the new teams as Riara University men and women's teams, Kenya Methodist University (Kemu) men, Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (Nibs), Mount Kenya University (Mku) Nairobi ladies, TSC Secretariat and International School of Kenya.
The NBA league has also lost six teams to the Kenya Basketball Federation. They are Equity Bank women who joined the premier league after winning the NBA title. MKU Thika and 4-Christ, Emyba and Don Bosco who joined the men's Division One.
Owino said the league will be divided into two pools for men with the top eight in each group making it to the play offs. The women's league will be a straight fight with the top four sides going straight to the play off semi finals.
