RWANDA : Niyomugabo ditches APR for newcomers Patriots

Rwandan International Sunny Niyomugabo has crossed from APR Basketball Club to new entrants Patriots BBC on a one-year contract. The development was also confirmed to Times Sport by APR basketball club head coach, Cliff Owuor yesterday.
The former APR shooting guard parted ways with the military side after serving the club for three years and was one of the club’s senior players. “We wish him good luck in his new challenge and respect him for being a good servant to the club during his time here,” Owuor said in an interview.
Niyomugabo said leaving APR was the hardest decision to make but was necessary for his career. “It is always hard, leaving a club like APR but I was not sure that I would be getting any playing time and no guarantees were forthcoming. So I think it is the best decision for both the club and me,” Niyomugabo said.
The 23-year-old former national junior team starlet was part of the senior team that failed to qualify for this year’s All Africa Games and Afrobasket finals.
In a separate interview, Patriots head coach Cyrille Kalima praised the arrival of the shooting guard at the club, “He is an important signing for us, his presence adds something big to my squad. He is now one of my most experienced players, he is vital in helping the young players on the team.”
Kalima has also recruited Ali Kubwimana, his former player at Kigali Basketball Club (KBC), who was also wanted reigning champions Espoir but opted to rejoin his former coach.
