KENYA : Kenya Set to Bid for Africa Zone 5 UR-16 Championships


KENYA will bid to host the Africa zone 5 under-16 boys and girls championship, according to Kenya Basketball Federation secretary general, Vitalis Gode.
The official yesterday confirmed he has already secured a ticket from the federation and will jetting out on January 17 to Cairo, Egypt for the Fiba Africa Zone Five Congress a day later, where he will present the Kenyan bid.
He said Coast Basketball Association (CBA) have agreed to the KBF proposal to host the championships at the Makande Welfare hall. CBA successfully hosted the Zone Five Club Championships last August. "We at KBF felt CBA chairman Hilmi Ali and his team did a commendable job during the regional club qualifiers and we want to give them another chance to host another top event," said Gode .
He said he will put up another request for Rwanda, who will host the Africa Club championships. The national league champions and runners up will fly the country's flag in this tournament. Mombasa hosted the last championships that attracted Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. United States International University (USIU) won the ladies while Urunani of Burundi retained their men's title.
