NIGERIA : FCT Angels, Pearls Reach Mark D Ball Semis


FCT Angels Basketball Club have qualified for the semifinals of the female category of the ongoing 2014 edition of 'Mark D Ball' Basketball Tournament in Otukpo, Benue State.
The Angels top Group B table, having won their three games.
They defeated Plateau Rockers 39-29 in their first match while also coming top in the second match against Purple Mart of Otukpo with 38-26 win.
The FCT girls continued their good form in their third group match against Sweeties of Makurdi, winning all the quarters to come top 38-24.
Pearls of Lagos also made the last four after winning all their group matches.
Pearls whitewashed One Wing of Kaduna State 61-10 in their first match, spanked Apa Queens of Otukpo 41-17 before edging Baby Seals of Lagos State 27-23 to top the group.
Though, fell to the overwhelming Pearls, Baby Seal ended up second in Group A with two wins. They won Apa Queens and One Wing 44-24 and 58-15 respectively.
They will now lock horns against FCT Angels in the second semifinal match.
Baby Seal's head coach Ochuko Okworogun told Daily Trust after their win against One Wing that she was always confident her team would make the cut.
She said her team will not be intimidated by the record of the FCT girls, assuring that her girls will overcome their opponents in the semifinals.
"We are not scared of them (FCT Angels). We will put up a fight and we will come out top," Okworogun assured.
Plateau Rockers are the fourth team to qualify for the semi-finals after their hard-earned 25-21 win over Sweeties.
They had earlier edged Purple Mart 20-15 and the second win against Sweeties guaranteed their place in the last four. They will meet Pearls in the first semifinals.
