KENYA : KPA fall to Inter Clube in Africa champions quarters

Kenya Ports Authority ,KPA, hopes of becoming the second Kenyan team to earn a podium finish at the FIBA-Africa Women Clubs Champions Cup were dashed on Friday when they lost 40-68 in their quarterfinal game against Inter Clube of Angola.
Eagle Wings is the only local team to have finished in the podium after their bronze finish in Meknes, Morocco last year.
United States International University- Africa (USIU-A) failed to make the quarters after losing all group games.
The sole Kenyan representative KPA was no match for the defending champions right from tip off.
The Angolans commanded first three quarters winning 24-8, 15-7 and 14-8 to make the fourth quarter a formality. KPA had the consolation fourth winning 17-15 but it was too little too late.
KPA made only three 3-point shots from 14 attempts and seven free-throws from 14 attempts. Natalie Akinyi was the best performing player on the court grabbing six rebounds and three steals to top score for KPA with 8 points.
Lynette Atieno and Yvonne Odhiambo also scored 8 points each for KPA and had five rebounds between them.
Italee Lucas, Sequoia Holmes, Nadir Manuel and Astrida Vicente all scored 10 points each for the Angolan side.
Out of 32 attempts, they made eight 3-point shots and 10 free-throws from 14 attempts.
Inter Clube conceded 15 turnovers and scored 13 points from turnovers compared to KPA who turned over possession for 17 times scoring only 8 points.
