Uganda’s Silverbacks got off the FIBA Africa Zone V Nations
Qualifiers’ blocks with an 85-74 win over Somalia on Sunday night. Great
team work from the Silverbacks sums up that game.
The Silverbacks again take the floor this evening against event
favourites – Egypt. Silverbacks’ head coach, Mandy Juruni said “they
will vary their approach depending on the team they are playing” prior
to the tournament. Variations start tonight against the defending
champions.
How will Uganda turnout against Egypt?
After
limiting Faisal Aden on Sunday with a solid defense you can almost be
sure John Balwigaire will be in the face of Egypt’s star guard, Ibrahim
ElGammal with help from Josh Johnson, Jimmy Enabus and Kasim Nagwere.
Egypt has got quite a presence down and will be a lot difficult to
pick the rebounds. Ivan Lumanyika, Henry Malinga, Andrew Opio and Samuel
Kalwanyi will have their hands full to pull down the balls from
Moustafa Elmakawy and Abdalla Ramy.
Egyptians may draw the Silverbacks away from the basket as they like
to shoot from distance after putting together a sequence of passes but
Uganda’s perimeter defense is as impressive as you like to counter that.
Abouelaiin Moamen and Abdelahim Amr who like to shoot from beyond the
arc may not have many open looks.
Will the Silverbacks beat Egypt’s zone defense that failed the Rwandese?
Uganda’s assistant coach, Gad Eteu said they get past it. “Why won’t
you guys believe we can beat those guys?” he asks. “We have strategies
that will beat their zone and we will try to stop them from scoring”
Eteu said.
Meanwhile, in the first game of the day, Rwanda will seek to bounce
back from the loss to Egypt when they take on Kenya who got a huge win
last night.
