UGANDA : One last shot for Uganda’s Gazelles | Zone V Nations Qualifiers
M: Egypt Vs Kenya 7:00pm
Two unwarranted defeats in two games have left the Gazelles in rather a tight spot. They need to win the remaining two games by bigger margins to overturn the defeats against Egypt and Kenya and make it to Afro-Basket and All Africa Games. The first of the two remaining fixtures falls on them this evening against Egypt at the Lugogo MTN Arena. They have to win by at least five points against Egypt to overturn the 65-61 defeat on the tournament opening day.
Peace Proscovia who returned to side against Kenya after pushing the National Netball side to the World Cup should lead the Gazelles’ push to Afro-Basket; hopefully. Her size should not just trouble Reen Ousrama and the Egyptians but it should make it count for the Gazelles.
Sharon Karungi should build on her 23/11 performance in the loss to Egypt and along with Claire Lamunu as well as Carol Nyafwono make it count from the line.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s men’s side who are also in pole position to win the event will take on Kenya who themselves have a chance of making Afro-Basket with a win tonight and against Uganda on Saturday.
After blazing past Somalia and falling to Rwanda, Kenya needs to win tonight and against Uganda. The Kenyans will look to the experience of Ancette Wafula and physical presence of Desmond Owili and Victor Odedndo off the bench for the offensive push against the best side in the region.
