After a rather comfortable close to the first quarter, Riham Warriors
looked headed for comfortable night in the second round game against
KIU Titans at YMCA.
Their coach, Gad Eteu looked seemed drawn in it. “Everything was going as we wanted” he said. “We had control over the game”
Everything started falling out of place in the second quarter. KIU ‘s
16-7 run to start the second quarter swayed the momentum Titans’ way
with a combined team effort something their coach, Henry Mwinuka was
happy about.
“Am happy with the guys, i think we did well as team. We don't have
go to individuals and that helped us as a team” he told Kawowo Sports
Julius ran at Warriors all night, Francis Kasekende found the basket
beyond the arc with his customary uplomb. The Titans found their grove
at the back end, stepped up their defense to alternate between a solid
man-to-man and a not so sustainable 2-3 Zone but limited Warriors to 9
points in the second quarter.
Kasekende and Collins Kusujja led KIU’s team scoring effort with 11
points apiece. Samuel Ogutu added 10 points while Bol Akol, Micheal
Makiadi and David Donat contributed 9 points each.It was turn for Warriors to chase and eventually never got there out
of poor decision making in the final 34 seconds some Eteu was
disappointed with but thinks his team gave away the game much earlier.
“There are mistakes like that” he said. “We lost the game much
earlier. They (KIU) worked for it but we gave away this game that is
what sucks” a disappointed Eteu told Kawowo Sports.
Ronnie Kasewu paced Warriors with game high 19 points including a
3-pointer that brought his team with a point of KIU with 11 seconds to
the final horn. Henry Malinga added 16 points and picked 9 rebounds in a
losing effort.
Meanwhile Claire Lamunu poured in 22 points and picked 15 rebounds as
KCCA Leopards rolled past KIU Rangers 57-49. Flavia Oketcho added 13
points.
Susan Amito had 14 and 19 to lead KIU and Moreen Atulinda added 12 and 14.
