TANZANIA : RBA Set for Launch

THE Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball League (RBA) will be launched today with an All-Stars game, dunking and three-points competitions at the National Indoor Stadium.
Basketball Dar es Salaam (BD) Managing Director Mohamed Tajiri said the launch will saw All-Stars players, who have been divided into East Conference and West Conference, locking horns in a game to be televised live by Azam TV, who are the league's media sponsor.
He said the event, which will involve various basketball stakeholders including famous veterans and upcoming players, will also witness dunking and three-points competitions.
"Today's event is part of BD's efforts to revive basketball awareness in the city as it was way back in the 1990s when the sport was the talk of town," said Tajiri.
According to the BD chief, the launch will be graced by the Dar es Salaam Regional Sports Officer, Adolf Ally. The RBA league will involve 12 teams from the three Dar es Salaam districts of Ilala, Kinondoni and Temeke with each fielding four teams that will compete for the regional title later this month.
"After the launch BD and the clubs participating in the RBA league will meet to decide when it should kick off and draw the fixture," Tajiri said.
The league will be televised live by Azam TV every Friday from the National Indoor Stadium, making it the first time for the competition to be broadcast live since its inception.
BD is determined to restore the league's popularity under the sponsorship of Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) through its Kilimanjaro Premium Lager brand.
