KENYA : Co-Op Bank, Strathmore Top Log As Race Tightens


CO-OPERATIVE Bank of Kenya and Strathmore top the men and women's KBF Premier League log following impressive show over the weekend.
The bankers, who triumphed over Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), have 35 points from 18 games having lost only one game. Blades are second on 34 points from 21 ties with their sister club, Strathmore University lying in third with 33 points.
Strathmore are tops in the women's category with 28 points from 16 matches. Former national champions and Africa bronze medalist Eagle Wings lie second also on 28 points from similar number numbers while United States International University, the only side yet to lose fixture this year, are third on 26 points with three matches in hand.
In other matches played over the weekend, Lions trailed by a close 29-18 score-line at half time and went on to lose 54-48 to a gritty Ulinzi Warriors side in a top fight of ex-champions. Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) pipped Strathmore University 74-72. Sprite Storms had 16 points from Faustine Mandu as they beat Kenyatta University "Oryx" 41-25. The campus girls had nine from Betty Kananu. In the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) matches at Railways club, leaders Strathmore University pipped Legacy 64-63 in a tight show.
