KENYA : USIU teams win league matches at Nyayo Stadium
USIU-Africa's men's and women’s
basketball teams won their first-leg matches in the basketball Premier
League at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium at the weekend. The Flames of the
USIU-A upset former champions Eagle Wings 57-51.
The Tigers of the USIU-A had earlier rocked the Mennonites 82-40 on Saturday.
The
Blades needed 13 points from Samuel Mugoko while George Okoth also sunk
12 to beat the Thunder 66-63 in another entertaining men’s Premier
League tie.
The Blades had an edge from the first
whistle to lead 36-31 at half time in a match Thunder guard Griffins
Ligare emerged top scorer with a record 40 points.
Women’s champions KPA had a successful tour of Kakamega, beating hosts Western Delight 94-24.
At Nyayo Stadium, Parklands Baptist lost their second match in a row, falling 73-31 to Umoja in men’s Division One league.
Parklands
Baptist lost 37-65 to World Hope at Upper Hill School on Saturday. In
Thika, hosts Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology failed
to use the home-court advantage when Zetech College defeated them 69-44.
Baraka
Xtreme also suffered a 64-26 loss to Dankind Academy from Nairobi in
Thika on Saturday. Dankind Academy kept their impressive record to pip
Upper Hill School (68-67) after trailing 33-25 at the break.
