UGANDA : Falcons get off a flying start to NBL season

Six time champions and back-to-back losing finalists Krishna Falcons got off the blocks of the 2014 National Basketball League season in style. They blew out new comers, Sharing Youths 85-57 at
YMCA on Sunday evening.
Falcons (1-0) were led by new signing Syrus Kiviiri with team high 20 points. Forward, Peter Elungat added 15 points, Steven Omony had 12 points and big man Serge Kabangu contributed 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Sharing (0-2) were led by Steven Otoa with game high 21 points and 8 boards. Katui Gatwech chipped in with 11 points.
Meanwhile, City Oilers spanked a thin Nkumba Marines roster 85-49 with four Oilers scoring in double figures led by Andrew Tendo with 15 points. Samuel Kalwanyi added 11 points and hauled in 15 rebounds. Guards, Ben Komakech and Adam Kakuru contributed 11 points apiece. Marines (0-2) were led by guard Roger Kavuma and center Brian Sivachi each scoring 10 points. Forward Emmanuel Nyabuto added8 points and picked 10 rebounds.
Last year’s Division 1 champions, Diamonds in the Sun (DITS) edged Vegetarian 54-51 paced by Felix Olaba’s 14 points. Jethral Okubal added 9 points as the freshers got off a winning start in the league. Vegetarians were led by Grace Adra with 10 points, John Otto chipped in with 9 points. Last year’s regular season MVP Bernard Okumu had 8 points to go with 11 boards.
In the women’s division, Crane High Ladies were beaten by Magic Stormers 94-27. Five Stormers reached double figures. Susan Mirembe and Sylvia Twesigye scored 16 points each, Jackie Natocho added 12 points, Cathy Kakimuli had 11 points and Esther Awayo contributed 10.
