TANZANIA : West Zone Three Off to Winning Start

WEST Zone 3 got their 'B Ball Kitaa' campaign off to a flyer after they posted a 40-37 win over West Zone 4 in the opening match played at the Gymkana Club basketball ground on Sunday.
West Zone 4, comprising of players from Ilala Boma and Magomeni, started the game strongly and dominated the early proceedings of the street basketball encounter, which was played in two halves of ten minutes each.
Inspired by their captain Daniel Kapongo, Zone 4 took a six point lead early in the first half but the winners turned the game on its head after pulling level on six points before taking full control to open a 26-19 lead at the end of the first half.
John Saper and Jacob Marenga led the charge for West Zone 3, notching 9 and 6 points respectively in the opening half. B- Ball break dancers enthralled the crowd with a stunning show at the break to excitement of those in attendance.
There was a lively start to the second half with both teams showing passion for victory. Although West Zone 4 tried their best to chase the game, they found the going tough as Zone 3 players refused to surrender their lead.
Speaking post match, Western Zone 3 skipper, Ashraf Haroun said that their opponents started well and had to change their approach to overcome them. "We knew that it was not easy to penetrate their defence for layups (two-point shot attempts) then we changed our offensive approach, we started to shoot 3 points by using our point-guard Marenga," he said.
West Zone 4's Kapongo rued his team's mistakes that contributed to the loss but believes all teams played well even though. "We did some mistakes, I agree we were not fast as we should but I believe we're going to work on our problems and in the coming game we will emerge victorious," he said.
