TANZANIA : Basketball Fun Set for Dar Gymkhana

BASKETBALL matches, which are part of the on-going 'BBall Kitaa' games sponsored by Coca-Cola Tanzania, will be played at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club tomorrow night.
Coca-Cola Tanzania Assistant Brand Manager Warda Kimaro said that BBall Kitaa games, whose theme is "Urgent Fundraising for Basketball Rising Stars", aim to provide a platform for entertainment and fun among basketball fans and the general public.
"Friday's games are expected to be competitive but thrilling as they involve children aged 10 years. There will be three matches -- Tanzania Rising Stars against Dar Select, Pazi vs Team Vijana Alumni and Team Karabani vs Team Lamar," he said.
'BBall Kitaa' matches are played every first week of the month. Sprite has been powering 'BBall Kitaa' since last year through street basketball tournaments staged in Dar es Salaam and Arusha.
The Friday night games, popularly known as 'Chini ya Mataa' as they are played under floodlights, started in October at Spider Court in Dar es Salaam.
The games have so far drawn participants from higher learning institutions such as College of Business Education and the University of Dar es Salaam, veterans and regional teams mainly in Arusha and Dar es Salaam.
Apart from the 'BBall Kitaa', Sprite has also been supporting youth basketball in Tanzania by bringing celebrated USA players to conduct basketball clinics in the country and organise regional and national tournaments.
In order to encourage more people to play basketball, Sprite has taken the initiative of face-lifting various basketball courts across the country -- Leaders Club, TPDC Mikocheni (Dar es Salaam), two basketball courts at Soweto (Arusha), CCP, Baptist basketball courts (Moshi) and CCM Kirumba basketball court in Mwanza.
