Basketball in Africa

KIGALI CITY is yet to confirm its participation in the 16th edition of the East and Central Africa Inter-Cities Basketball Championship to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from May 6-11.
Basketball Dar es Salaam (BD) acting president, Richard Jules, told Tanzania media that preparations for the event were on course.
The cities that are expected to send teams to the tournament include; Mombasa, Nairobi, Kigali, Bujumbura, Mogadishu, Mbeya, Tanga, Mwanza and hosts Dar es Salaam.
However, Director of Media and Communication at Kigali City Council Bruno Rangira, told Times Sport yesterday, “We are yet to get any invitation to take part in the tournament. Hopefully the hosts (Dar es Salaam) will send an official invite on which we will base to confirm our participation or not.”
Last year’s event saw Nairobi (women) and Mombasa (men) winning the trophy. Nairobi women have won the highest number of trophies in this tournament—claiming 11 of the 15 editions.
