TANZANIA : Vijana Humiliate Airwing in Ilala League

VIJANA City Bulls proved their prowess by walloping Airwing 97-60 in a lopsided match of the ongoing Ilala District Basketball League at Zanaki Secondary School grounds in dare s Salaam.
Vijana, who represented the country in last year's FIBA Africa Zone Five Basketball Championship, were too strong for Airwing and dictated terms from the first whistle to lead 28-8 points in the first quarter and were 46-17 ahead at the breather.
Airwing were a rejuvenate side in the third head in which they battled head to head with Vijana scoring 22 points in the quarter against Airwing's 21.
However, Vijana piled up pressure in the last quarter to add 30 points to their account while Airwing managed only 22.
Nate Plato posted 34 points for the winners, while Gidibo Tindwa, Jacob Marenga and Daniel Kapongo added 15, 12 and 10 respectively. In another match, Tanzania Prisons suffered a painful defeat 59-57 to Savio in a thriller.
A slow start in the first quarter cost Prisons dearly as they allowed Savio to maintain their winning streak to a third consecutive victory. Prisons found themselves in the middle of problems when they went down 10-19 in the early stages of the game and trailed 22-28 at the interval.
Prisons started the third quarter very came strongly to lead 16-12, but it was too late for them to correct first quarter mistake. In the final quarter they went toe-to-tie with each scoring 19 points.
Three shoot specialist Mohamed Yusuph, Peter Mguza and Karim Thabit hit 18, 12 and 8 points each respectively for Savio.
Emanuel Michael scored 18 points for Prisons, while Bwire Paulo and Samwel Singe scored 9 and 8 points each.
In yet another game, Jogoo avenged their opening day defeat to Savio by winning their second consecutive match 76- 52 over Magone at the same venue.
