TANZANIA : Sprite Powered Basketball Matches Set for Friday

COCA-COLA Tanzania has organized basketball matches at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam tomorrow night as part of the ongoing series of the B-Ball Kitaa games aimed at promoting active life style and entertainment.
Coca-Cola Tanzania Assistant Brand Manager Warda Kimaro told a press conference in the city yesterday that the games will also be used to celebrate the World Women's Day.
"In honour of this worldwide event, we have organized a special women's match pitting Nyama Choma against Women Celebrations", she said, adding that the ladies teams are owned by Carol Ndosi and Khadija Mwanamboka respectively.
Another match billed to be competitive but thrilling will bring together Shafih Dauda's team against Patrick Nyembera's squad.
Both teams have sounded optimistic of winning the encounter expected to draw the attention of Dar es Salaam basketball fans. Sprite has been powering BBall Kitaa since last year through street basketball tournaments staged in Dar es Salaam and Arusha.
Friday night games, popularly known as 'Chini ya Mataa, as they are played under floodlights, started in October at Spider Court adjacent to the famous Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club.
The games have so far drawn participants from higher learning institutions such as College of Business Education and the University of Dar es Salaam, veterans and regional teams mainly in Arusha and Dar es Salaam.
Apart from the B-Ball Kitaa, Sprite has also been supporting youth basketball in Tanzania by bringing celebrated USA players to conduct basketball clinics in the country and organizing regional and national tournaments.
In order to encourage more people to play basketball, Sprite has taken the initiative of face-lifting various basketball courts across the country.
They include Leaders Club and TPDC Mikocheni in Dar es Salaam, two courts at Soweto in Arusha, Moshi's CCP and Baptist courts as well as CCM Kirumba basketball court in Mwanza.
