NIGERIA : Zenith B'ball League - NBBF Slams Code of Conduct On Players

Abuja — The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced a plan to apply the Code of Conduct on basketball players featuring in all competitions organised by the body. The disciplinary code has been strongly advanced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in its dealing with the players of the national teaam.
NBBF President, Tijani Umar, announced at the ongoing Zenith Bank National Female Basketball League that the measure would stamp out indecent dressing among players and will also regulate the conduct of team officials and referees.
Umar said the policy will change the perception of the public about basketball players and make them adjust to a new behavourial model.
"We have worked out a code of conduct for the players and we will get them sign the document. The players must be well dressed as they are being watched on television and assessed by FIBA. A team including a coach must also face the media after a match. This is to make the players accountable and to play in an organised environment," Umar said.
The Zenith League which began at the weekend and will run through March 31 will feature 16 teams. In Group 'A' FCT Angels, AHIP Queens, Dolphins, Coal City Queens, Customs, Plateau Rock, First Bank and Benue Queens.
Group 'B' comprises of Sunshine, Delta Force, First Deepwaters, IGP Queens, Immigrations, Great Team 2000, Oluyole Babes and Taraba Hurricane.
The winner of the tournament will reap the cash price of N1million while the runners up will cash N750,000. The third placed team will go home with N500,000.
The teams will move to Ilorin from where the four best teams will be picked for the round-robin series that will be held in Lagos.
