NIGERIA : Zenith Bank Women's League Dunks Off

The first phase of the Zenith Bank women's basketball league dunks off this Friday in Abuja with 16 teams drawn in two groups of eight teams just as the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF signed a new three year deal with its sponsor valued at N90 million.
President of the NBBF, Tijjani Umar who disclosed this in Lagos said the Opening games will run from Friday, March 21 through Tuesday March 25 while the closing games comes after the March 26 rest day and will run from March 27 to 29.
He added that the the second phase which holds in Ilorin, Kwara State begins in the first week of May while Lagos will host the Play-offs with the best eight teams at a date to be determined later.
He commended Zenith Bank for sponsoring the competition for 10 years and stressed that the NBBF was looking forward to running a full blown league on a home and away basis.
"We are happy about this development; it is a good sign for our basketball. It used to be a yearly deal, but we are happy to have a three-year partnership with our sponsors -Zenith Bank.
It is their 10th year of being with us, it is also a clear indication that they want to do more for our league," Umar said.
Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Mr Godwin Emefiele, who was represented by Mr Marcel Okeke, restated the bank's commitment to sponsoring the league and expressed satisfaction with the way the NBBF is running the league.
'The new deal will be reviewed upwards yearly so that the NBBF will receive more money, that is, N25 million, N30 million and N35 million respectively in the next three years.
"We are aware of many other corporate organisations' interest in sponsoring the league, hence we are on our guards to do our duty to be the sponsors of the league," he said.
