LESOTHO : Lehakoe hosts basketball trial
By Nthako Majoro
MASERU-The Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA) will tomorrow hold an under-20 tournament at the Lehakoe Courts to select a team for the Southern Africa Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) 3-on-3 competition to be held in Botswana in June this year.
According to the LBA spokesperson, Ratšolo Molupe, a huge turnout of both boys and girls is expected for the event, but with just five players being selected.
“We have a FIBA 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday at Lehakoe in Maseru. The competition is for the boys’ under-20 trials for the Southern Africa FIBA tournament to be held in Botswana in June this year,” said Molupe on Wednesday this week.
“Even though the tournament is for the under-20 boys, we are also expecting girls of the same age, and also senior players from all the clubs that are registered with the LBA. Registration is M100 per team and the deadline is Friday at 2pm.”
Molupe further said this would be the first time Lesotho takes part in such an international competition.
“This is going to be the first time Lesotho players would be competing at international level in such a tournament, while at national level, we last held such a competition a long time ago. The reason for the inactivity has been lack of funds, but now thanks to the Lesotho National Olympic Committee sponsorship, the tournament has bounced back.”
