Nigeria: Team Delta Wins Final of Female Basketball Event
The Delta female Basketball team on Wednesday emerged champions in the female category of the basketball event at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Delta team thrashed its counterpart from Abia, 72-22, in a match that appeared too simple for the Asaba team.
Delta which had earlier on Tuesday defeated Taraba, 38-26, to qualify for the event's final, was on rampage throughout the match.
Delta's coach, Gbugbemi Fregene, said after the match that he was not surprised about the win because his team prepared well for the NYG.
"I was not surprised that we won this match because we had adequate preparations for the Games.
"We had a good training ground and our welfare was well taken care of, so we had no other option than to win," Fregene said.
In the third place match, Taraba walked-over Benue after Benue could not present a complete basketball team of at least five players.
