NIGERIA : Taraba's Male Basketball Team Lose Points
Taraba's male basketball team has lost its 47-17 win over Team Kaduna for fielding an ineligible player at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG), an official said yesterday.
Elijah Adamu, the Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He said the federation's jury convened for the NYG discovered that one of Taraba's players had competed in a competition of a higher age grade. Adamu said it was discovered that Phimwanala Danladi had competed in the 18th National Sports Festival (NSF) held in Lagos in 2012.
"After their match, Team Kaduna filed a protest that one of the Team Taraba players had competed in the NSF and, from our inquiry, we found this to be true. Although, the player is 17 years old from the records of the NSF that we obtained, but one of the rules of this NYG is that a player who had competed in any higher tournament like NSF will not be eligible," Adamu said.
