Nigeria: FCT Wins Male Basketball

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) basketball team has won the male category of the basketball events of the on-going National Youth Games (NYG).
FCT edged their opponents, Ogun State 79-56 in the final game decided at the basketball court, Package B of the Abuja National Stadium Wednesday.
The team took the game to its opponents from the blast of the whistle, racing to a 26-10 lead in the first quarter.
The boys from Ogun State rallied back in the 2nd quarter to atone for their woeful first quarter with a slim 21-18 win but it didn't count much as FCT won the third quarter; 16-6 before drawing the final one; 19-19 to ensure a 79-56 victory. Head Coach of the FCT team, Tunde Ayodeji, said apart from their adequate preparation, God was also on their side.
"We trained hard and with God on our side, we had the confidence that we were going to win. It was really a tough match but we excelled at the end of the day." Kaduna defeated Delta 62-28 to win the third place match.
In the female category, Delta state female basketball team comfortably thrashed its counterpart from Abia 72-22 to finish top of the log.
Delta made it to the final after beating Taraba 38-26 in the semi-finals on Tuesday. Delta C, Gbubemi Fregene, boasted after the match that he was not surprised about the win because his team prepared well for the NYG.
"I was not surprised that we won this match because we had adequate preparations for this Games," Fregene said.
In the third place match, Taraba walked-over Benue after the team could not present a complete team of at least five players.
Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Elijah Adamu, said some players were screened out from the Benue team after Team Taraba protested before the match that Benue has over-aged players.
"We made inquiries and found out that five out of the nine players they presented were over-aged, so they were left with only four players, which is not acceptable. Certificates were given to successful teams at the end of the competition.
