KENYA : Eagle Wings Clipped in Morocco Africa Tourney
EAGLE Wings fell 69-41 to Inter Clube of Angola at the ongoing Africa club championships for women in Makanese, Morocco. The former Kenyan champions trailed 20-33 at the break and did not recover.
Rose Ouma nailed 15 points and Samba Mjomba made 9. The winners had 22 from Maina Makanaro. This result saw them book a quarters final date with compatriots United States International University (USIU) who had beaten Dolphins of Nigeria 61-44 as Hilda Indasi managed 17 points.
USIU had rolled over home girls CODM 77-61. Only eight teams managed to take part in this event. Meanwhile Ulinzi "Blades" won the 2013 Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) crown when they beat Footprints 51-44 at Nairobi Railways Club.
The soldiers swept the losers 3-0 in the best of five series. Leading the soldiers onslaught was Rose Akech who scored 24 points and Sarah Anyango who recorded another 11 points.
Footprints, who gave a good account of themselves had 15 from the league's second top scorer Seline Okumu who nailed 14 points while guard Peris Magembe also added a similar number to pep Juma Kent's side. The two teams gained promotion to the national premier league
