ZAMBIA : Stringers Close in On Cavs
YMCA 38 CBU 34
YMCA Stringers at the weekend produced a superb display to subdue Copperbelt University (CBU) Comets 38-a34 in a Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) northern region league week eight fixture.
With leaders CEC Cavs and second-placed Lunga Bullets not in action, the games played at Konkola Basketball Courts in Chililabombwe saw YMCA moving within a point of the Cavs and drew level on 15 games with Bullets.
Comets, who have three games in hand, remained third from bottom with seven points after the weekend fixtures played.
Konkola trotters extended their unbeaten run to six successive wins after outclassing Konkola Heat 68-18 to extend their lead to 12 points on the league B table as Mufulira Magnets kept chase for the top slot beating CEC Blazers 53-41 to accumulate 11 points after six games.
Konkola Heat squandered an opportunity to redeem their poor showing earlier against Trotters as they went on to suffer another defeat at the hands of Nchanga Haulpaks losing 45-32 and moved a place up from the bottom of the table.
In the feminine league, CEC Queens continued to cause havoc on its opponents as they recorded a resounding 74-22 victory over CBU Robins to consolidate their lead with eight points after four games.
Mufulira Saints beat struggling Konkola Angeles to close in on CEC Queens but drew level on five points with the Robins.
