UGANDA : Power to play for Ankunda

Today at ymca
Vegeterian vs. Power 6.30pm
Miracle vs. Ndejje 8.30pm

KAMPALA

This is a trying time for DMark Power. Their coach, Bernes Ankunda, lost his wife at the weekend and with the burial slated for Saturday in Kenya, basketball may not be the only thing on the players’ minds.
The five-time champions though play Vegetarian in the first of two games at YMCA, Wandegeya today while Ndejje University Angels face the men’s topflight division’s worst team Miracle Eagles (1-1)
Having beaten Falcons, Vegetarians will hope to claim another scalp in third-placed Power (15-2), set to turn play without Ankunda. “I am going to be away for a long time,” Ankunda said.
The players have tried to offer some support to their coach. “We want to win this game for him. Although we know it will obviously be scant consolation, our hearts are with his family in this trying time,” forward Isaac Afidra told the Daily Monitor yesterday
That will not be the team’s only motivation though; UCU Canon’s 63-65 loss to champions Riham Warriors last Friday means securing the number one seeding for the play-offs is in Power’s hands.

The first round fixture against Vegeterian ended in a 70-36 blowout victory for Power. The return to form of two-time MVP Ben Komakech after a wrist injury makes Power overwhelming favourites for another win.
