RWANDA : Poor second round start for Rusizi in Basketball league
RUSIZI had a disappointing weekend after losing to rivals APR and KBC in the national basketball league second round games on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The Western Province-based team, who prior to this weekend, had lost just once to the champions, Espoir in the first round, made a miserable start to the second round by losing 75-48 to APR on Saturday and 88-81 to Kigali Basketball Club on Sunday.
“It is very disappointing to lose both games that we shouldn’t have lost, but that is the nature of the sport and we just need to take the two defeats on the chin and look forward to the next match,” Rusizi BBC president Jean Pierre Gashema told this paper yesterday.
Up next for the second-placed Rusizi are must-win games against two struggling sides 30-Plus and United Generation basketball (UGB) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Unbeaten Espoir lead the table with 14 points, one ahead of Rusizi, while KBC are third with 12 points, CSK and APR are fourth and fifth with 11 and 10 points respectively
