The 2011 Gisembe memorial tournament winners Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) are eager to give hard time to former champion sides KBC when the two sides meet in the national basketball league at Amahoro indoor stadium, starting at 7pm tonight.
CSK, formerly called ‘Amahoro Basketball Club, are currently fifth-placed in the seven-team table but are aiming to win their remaining four regular season second round games, starting this evening.
“The league title if far from our reach because we did not perform well in the first round but if we win our four remaining games in the second round, we  have a good chance to finish second and that is our target,” said head coach Jean Guy Rutayisire.
The former APR player added, “The focus is on today’s game against KBC before we can start to even think of Sunday’s clash with APR. We need to win these two games and then we can plan for the remaining two fixtures against Rusizi and UGB.”
Rutayisire, who as a player, featured APR, Espoir, KBC and UGB,  won five league titles with the military side from 2000 to 2005 before switching  to Uganda’s side Falcons basketball club from 2005 to 2008 and helped them win three league titles.

In other league matches this weekend, defending champions Espoir will be up against bottom-placed 30-Plus on Saturday and KBC on Sunday, while former champions APR will face United Generation Basketball (UGB) and CSK on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

In women’s league, Rwanda Allied Peace for Progress face-off this year’s Gisembe memorial tournament winners Ubumwe on Saturday at Green Hills Academy court, starting at 2pm.

Before this weekend games, Rusizi BBC lead the men’s league table standing with 17 points, three ahead of second-placed and still unbeaten Espoir.
