KENYA :Okal Leads KPA Past Aviation

  • Ariel Okal dunked in eight points to help Kenya Ports Authority, KPA, beat Nairobi Aviation College 91-58 in a national classic league match played Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.
    The former Nakuru Club player scored a game-high 26 points for the Dockers while teammate Martin Gitonga added 16. Job Byron was Aviation’s top scorer with 22 points. It was a sweet revenge for KPA who lost 58-48 to the students in their first leg encounter played in Mombasa.
    The visitors dominated the entire match from the onset and were ten points up at the breather leading 38-28. KPA won all the quarters 23-16, 15-12, 22-21 and 31-9.
    Defending champions Co-operative Bank made it three wins in a row beating Mennonite 100-38, only a week after registering crucial victories over title contenders Lions and Thunder.
    The bankers had no mercy for their opponents winning all the quarters 21-12, 27-4, 20-8 and 32-14.Tony Abondo top scored for Co-op Bank with 28 points with Titus Musembi adding 18. Kooshin Diliwe was Mennonite’s highest scorer with 23 points.
    The loss complicated Soni Mugisha’s mathematics whose target this season was a top five finish. For the bankers, their campaign has only begun gaining momentum at the right time with playoffs in the offing.

    KPA lose to Sprite StormsKPA ladies team was for the second day unlucky going down 60-42 to Sprite Storms. The Dockers had lost 48-45 to Strathmore University on Saturday and will return home winless.
     Storms led 25-24 at halftime after winning the first quarter 11-10 and deadlocking the second at 14-14.
    KPA ran out of fighting strength in the second quarter leaving Storms to run the show with 14-8 and 21-9 wins in the third and fourth quarters respectively. Susan Akinyi and Sylvia Omollo scored 18 points each for Storms while Brenda Angeshi had 14 for KPA.
    Equity Bank and Strathmore University continued to lead the pack in division one winning their respective matches on Sunday.
    Equity beat Little Prince by ten points with a 64-54 scoreline. Vincent Onsogo scored 20 points for the bankers while Victor Okoth had 21 for Prince.  
    Peter Shilton was once more instrumental for Strathmore scoring 19 points in their 77-71 comeback win over Kenya Airports Authority, KAA.
     
    Strathmore trailed KAA by a point at halftime. Evans Ochieng and Vincent Anyim scored 15 points each for KAA. Zetech College beat Kenya College of Accountancy- University, KCA-U, 60-57.
    Results: Storms 60 KPA 42, KAA 71 Strathmore University 77, Little Prince 54 Equity Bank 64, Zetech College 60 KCA-U 57, Co-op Bank 100 Mennonite 38, Nairobi Aviation College 58 KPA 91.
