UGANDA : Wobbly Warriors get ‘soft landing’
Two defeats later, Riham Warriors are expected to turn their Airtel National Basketball League form around against eighth-placed Charging Rhino at YMCA court today.
The champions are wobbly in the absence of talisman Ronnie Kasewu, who has sat out the past 10 days following a twinge in his thigh muscle.
In his absence, Ndejje University Angels beat Warriors 84-69 and Nkumba Marines did the same, winning 58-56.
Kasewu aside, Warriors should have competed better against Ndejje had it not been for giving away several second chance points. Then came the Nkumba miracle. Jude Ochen and Andrew Okot scored 13 each for Warriors but those were too few to avoid a fourth defeat that left them with a rather unpalatable 10-4 win-loss record. Warriors led 56-53 with 18 seconds on the clock only for Nkumba to tie it with a three-pointer then a Wilson Otweyo lay-up with two seconds won it.
Nkumba got their fifth win in a season they have spent and will spend fighting relegation. However, that cannot the inability of the rest to fold when the going gets tough.
