UGANDA : Canons Steamroll Hapless Miracle

THE curse of relegation has surrounded the Miracle Eagles, Proline Heaters and Vegetarian and Sunday saw the three clubs take another step towards the exit of the men's Airtel National Basketball League.
The leading contenders for demotion from Uganda's elite basketball division all lost heavily in their first matches of the regular season second round at the MTN Arena, taking their respective tally of defeats this season to 11.
Obviously the only consolation for Miracle, Proline and Vegetarian is that only two of them will eventually be axed but just as importantly, Sunday's contests left them tied on one win.
Miracle were the biggest losers on the day, succumbing to a 110-56 humbling from the UCU Canons.
Cyrus Kiviri, Patrick Habiyaremye, Jonathan Egau and Joseph Chuma led UCU with 19, 16, 14 and 12 points respectively. Abraham Isayigi and Raymond Bukenya top-scored for Miracle with 13 and 10 points respectively. Vegetarian's humiliation came from City Oil, who triumphed 91-60 with Kami Kabange drilling a league high 35 points and Jimmy Enabu adding 17 for the victors.
Vinnie Juruni, John Otto led Vegetarian with 15 and 13 points respectively while Bernard Okumu and Michael Odong added 10 points apiece. Proline lost 67-36 to Nimrod Kaboha's KIU Titans, who were led by Chris Kyebambe and Donat Habiyambere with 15 points apiece while Francis Kasekende added 10.
Proline's offense accounted for the first five points of the match but it collapsed once KIU hit their renowned defensive gears.
