Tanzania: Lioness Bounce Back in Fiba Africa Zone V

TANZANIA Don Bosco Lioness bounced back at FIBA Africa Zone Five Basketball championship to beat their rivals APR of Rwanda 65-51 in a women's Group B match played on Wednesday in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Don Bosco who started the event on a dismal note after suffering a defeat to the hosts Les Gazelles, revived their hopes of making it to the semi-finals after the win against APR in a thrilling encounter.
The Tanzanian ladies showed a good fighting spirit and put up a dominant performance to take an early lead of 15 -13 points during the first quarter but they were in trouble after finding their lead reduced to 30-29 at the interval.
APR stepped up their game after the restart but could not match Lioness's firepower as the Tanzanian queens resisted to lie down and held their lead to 47-39 in the third quarter. It was the same story in the final quarter in which the Lioness snatched a 65-51 victory.
In-form Saida Ahmed scored 20 points to lead her team to victory and liven up their hope. She scored three points four times and also had seven rebounds during the match.
Amina Mohamed added another 12 points as Rehema Silombi slotted in 10. The team was in action yesterday evening against Eagle Wings of Kenya to find out if they have any chance to go through.
Lioness should also pray that Eagle Wings lose to APR. Don Bosco started their group campaign with a defeat at the hands of Les Gazelles, who are leading Group B with three wins in their hand.
They were the first team to confirm their place in the semi-finals. Another Tanzania team Vijana 'City Bulls', who compete in the men's category, are packing their bags back home after suffering the second defeat to Riham Warriors of Uganda on Wednesday, in which they lost 50-64 .
They were also defeated by hosts New Stars 91-52 in their opening Group B match. The semi-finals are scheduled for today.
Six teams were registered in the men's category, while the women's series attracted at least seven teams. The tournament started on Monday.
