SEYCHELLES : MBU dampen down the Heat’s title chances
After a terrific start to the season where they ended the first round unbeaten, Beau Vallon Heat have found the going tougher in the second round, and they suffered a third defeat last weekend, against a very determined MBU Rockers.
Daniel Hoareau led Rockers with 17 points as they sent Beau Vallon Heat crashing to a 68-80 defeat at the Victoria Gymnasium on Saturday. MBU came out strong for the game and after the first quarter they led 19-18. They kept their momentum in the second quarter to increase their lead to three points outscoring their opponents 17-15. The game remained close despite MBU slowly distancing themselves from their challengers and won the third quarter 16-14, their overall lead at this point was by five points. The final quarter was where they managed to pull away from Heat as they won it 28-21 to win the match with a 12-point margin. Robert Leon led the game’s scoring with 24 points.
The loss sees Beau Vallon Heat’s title chances now resting on PLS Hawks losing at least two of their remaining three matches. The two sides have yet to meet in the second round of the league and their meeting will likely decide where the title will go this season.
In other games played at the weekend, Amadou Sylla scored 22 points to lead the scoring for Premium Cobras as they beat Angels 66-50. Dominic Françoise scored 18 for Angels. Baya went into their game against Drifters thinking they were going to have an easy afternoon, but they were pushed all the way by their opponents, although they managed to win in the end, after overtime. The final score was 86-76.
In the men’s second division, Anse Etoile got 25 points from Christian Toulon as they beat AAP Brothers 74-58. Naddy Marie scored 21 points for AAP. Leaders Cascade Bullets can seal promotion back to the first division this weekend if they manage a victory against Praslin Warriors on Saturday. Bullets are unbeaten in 11 games this season.
