Trying to avoid a three-game losing streak, two time champions, Nkumba Marines play the league-worst Miracle Eagles on Wednesday night at YMCA. To improve their chances of winning, the Marines need to shoot and defend better.
Owners of the second-worst record in the National Basketball League, the Eagles are averaging league-worst 37.1 points while conceding an average of 82.3 points. Eagles (0-8) last played against Ndejje Angels and were without center, Ronald Nsubuga and Isaac Isyagi who could be back.
Marines (2-7) are also struggling to score since center, Brian Sivachi went off the boil four games into the season. Timothy Odeke will look up to forwards, Wilson Otweyo and Emmmanuel Nyabuto and guards Roger Kavuma and Shaban Ramadhani for combined scoring and get his third win of the season.
The Marines need to fix their turnover troubles much as it may not matter against a team whose shots can’t fall but will on Sunday when they face UCU Canons. Since limiting themselves to just 7 in the 78-40 loss to Warriors in mid-May, the university side has coughed-up the ball an average of 25 times in the last six games including an unfathomable 33 times against Ndejje Angels. Their opponents have even been more careless with the ball with an average of more three in the last six games.
In the women’s division, KCCA Leopards play MUK Sparks. The defending champions, Leopards are unbeaten in 9 and are not about to when they face Sparks (2-6) who won their opening game of the season and have since not won a game on court. Claire Lamunu has remained an impact player even after joining KCCA. The forward is averaging team high 15 points and 8.5 rebounds and will lead the high scoring Leopards against Sparks. Sparks are up against the meanest defense of the league which allows an average of 34.3 points and the second best offense averaging 73.8 points.
