RWANDA : Hoops rule out Senegal camp

RWANDA MEN’S basketball team has ruled out taking part in the Senegal camp which was aimed at fine-tuning the team ahead of the Fiba AfroBasket championship due in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire next month.

Initially, the national team was expected to take part in a tournament organised by Senegal Basketball Federation from August 11-14.
The Secretary General of Rwanda Basketball Federation, Richard Mutabazi, said yesterday “We have ruled out taking the team to Senegal because the hosts are not willing to put into effect what we had initially agreed regarding the team’s stay in Dakar,”
“But we are planning to take the team to Egypt for a one-week training camp ahead of the championship where we hope to secure some friendly matches,” added Mutabazi.
Meanwhile, the national team has been boosted by the arrival of three professional players namely; Bradley Cameron [Mississippi Gulf Coast College], Patrice Twagirayezu [USA] and Thierry Sukusuku [France].
Daniel Primo Rugamba (Seattle University, USA) is expected to jet into the country on Wednesday night while Cedrick Isom (Primiero do Agosto, Angola), Brannon Darrius (Thailand), Dan Manzi and Adonis Rwabigwi (Tampa Bay, Florida USA), and Keneth Gasana (S. Plaza Moroc) will arrive in the country on July 27.
Canada-based Hamza Ruhezamihigo will link up with the team on July 29.
Rwanda is drawn against defending champions Tunisia and Burkina Faso in Group C of the Fiba AfroBasket championship.
