KENYA : Storms, Strathmore win to keep pace on leaders

  • Sprite Storms and Strathmore University kept a close chase on women premier leaders Eagle Wings with crucial wins in their respective national classic league matches played on Sunday.
    Wings, the league’s defending champions, had on Saturday beaten Kenya Ports Authority, KPA, 68-46. Storms easily beat Western Delight 92-30 while Strathmore struggled to register a 57-14 win over Mennonite.
    Suzanne Akinyi led the Storms’ rout with a game high of 26 points while Ruth Adionyi and Celestine Ibabwa top scored for Delight with 10 points each.
    Storms won all the quarters 31-10, 12-9, 29-7 and 20-4. Strathmore struggled to find their bearing against Mennonite in a match they were poised to win big.
    Beatrice Maina had 11 points for the students while Vivian Akinyi scored 5 for Mennonite. Strathmore walked home with all the quarters winning 19-5, 10-0, 15-4 and 13-5. KPA beat Safe Spaces 76-37 after taking a 43-17 halftime lead.
    Point guard Brenda Angeshi had 15 points for the Dockers while Evelyn Itabo scored 12 for Spaces. KPA won the first two quarters 25-2 and 18-15. Spaces fought hard to win the third quarter 16-11 before KPA snatched away the third 22-4.
    United States International University- Africa, USIU-A, was the biggest loser after both men and women teams failed to show up.
    Consequently, their opponents Nairobi Aviation College and NYTA-Shimba were awarded a 20-0 walkover. Zetech College and World Hope played a highly cautious match before the students prevailed to win 64-60 in the division one. Zetech led 28-21 at halftime.
    Joshua Okumu had 16 points for the students as Samuel Sioso notched 15 for World Hope. Equity Bank dispatched Kenya College of Accountancy- University, KCA-U, 52-36 after taking a one point lead to the breather. George Omenda had 10 points for the bankers while Brian Ondari hit 9 for KCA.
    Collated Results: Safe Spaces 37 KPA 76, Strathmore University 57 Mennonite 14, Storms 92 Western Delight 30, Equity Bank 52 KCA-U 36, Zetech College 64 World Hope 60, USIU-A 0 Nairobi Aviation College 20, USIU-A 0 NYTA-Shimba 20.
