UGANDA : Injured Oketcho Lifts Kampala A

Kampala A 61 Entebbe 50
A limping Flavia Oketcho played through the pain barrier to help Kampala A to overcome stubborn Entebbe 61-50 in the annual inter-cities basketball tournament on Monday at the Lugogo MTN Arena.
Oketcho sustained an injury to her left ankle in an attempt to pick a rebound against Entebbe big man Carol Nyafono with only two minutes into the third quarter.
She left Kampala A with a 38-26 lead and in her absence, they struggled to score, managing only 12 points which forced coach Timothy Odeke to bring her on in the fourth quarter.
The reigning NBL MVP showed her class on her way to scoring 9 points, 5 assists and a rebound in the final quarter.
"It's not serious (the injury) as we thought because she came back on court but she will miss one or two games," Odeke explained after the game.
Kampala A finished third in the last edition and with new acquisitions like Claire Lamunu joining the team, they will be looking to make it to the final.
"When I saw her off the court, it inspired me to fight harder and it makes me feel good that I played a role in my team's win," Lamunu stated after the win. She made 11points, blocked three shots and picked 8 rebounds.
But things could have been harder if Nyafono had converted all the nine free shots she missed in the game. The margin could have been narrowed to two points and with a strong finish, the result could have been different or Entebbe could have forced overtime.
"I know I cost my side a lot because if all my free shots went in, the story could have been different," a distraught Nyafono lamented.
She made a game high 14 points, picked seven rebounds and spent the most time on court (33.13 mins).
