NIGERIA : Oluyole Warriors, Union Bank Hit Form in Basketball Atlantic Conference

Oluyole Warriors and Union Bank Basketball Clubs have continued with their winning streaks by dispatching their opponents and recording three successive victories at the Atlantic Conference of the ongoing DSTV Men's Basketball League.
The Warriors of Ibadan had to strive relentlessly to overcome hard fighting Customs of Lagos 56-53, while Union Bank downed Lagos Islanders 84-76 in a keenly contested encounter.
Second round action will resume on May 7 in the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences of the league.
Reacting to his team's dominant form, Coach Yemi Abiodun of Oluyole Warriors expressed happiness about the team's form.
"We had a great game and we are happy having won three matches in a row; my team is focused and we will work hard to continue this way," Mr. Abiodun said.
Mohamed Hamza, the coach of Customs, blamed his players for thinking that the match was already won.
"We lost today because of overconfidence; we had the game in our hands, having led most of the time, but became careless and lost control.
"We will make sure such doesn't happen again when we confront them in the second leg," he said.
Meanwhile, Ayinla Yusuf of Union Bank has described his team's third victory on the trot as a great motivation for the challenges ahead.
"We are happy, we have a strong team and my players proved their quality over star studded Islanders, we hope to continue this way," he said.
Reacting to his team's loss to their arch rivals, Coach Sina Wahab of Islanders praised Customs for their play but stressed that his team would not be caught napping in the return match.
"We are confident of turning the game around in our second leg, we have noticed all areas to work on to make the important changes," he said.
In the third match played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos Centre, Comets recorded their first victory by outscoring Police Baton 70-66.
Coach Ayo Bakare of Comets told NAN that he was proud of his team, adding that his youthful side would gradually hit their stride in the league.
"We played well today and hopefully looking ahead and like I have said before, my target is to build a young team of players into a formidable side.
"It is not my major priority to win the league at the end of the season, but to give young players the opportunity to play and rise," he said.
Coach Olayinka Oyewunmi of Police Baton said the team underrated Comets because of their youthful look.
"It was not a good result; we were too confident of winning and underrated them.
"We will perform better in our next game, we just have to play with the right attitude, " Oyewunmi said.
