KENYA : USIU Flames scorch Oryx as Mennonites arrest Terrorists

USIU Flames the runners up of the 2012 KBF Premier League in the ladies category had an easy outing on Sunday afternoon after they beat fellow university students Kenyatta University Oryx 67-27 at the Nyayo gymnasium.
Flames won all the quarters of the match to hand Oryx their second defeat of the weekend after they had lost out to Storms 58-37 on Saturday. In Sunday’s match 2012’s Most Valuable Player Hilda Indasi had 10 points to her name while her team mate Ghyslaine Uwimana led the scoring charts for USIU with 12 points.
In the first quarter USIU kicked off the match with a resounding 18-6 win a result they registered once more in the 2nd quarter which ended 18-2 to further Oryx’s misery. This put the half time scores at 36-8 in favor of USIU.
The 3rd and 4th quarter saw a similar situation just as the first half of the match where Flames dominated their opponents with a 17-9 win in the 3rd and then sealed of the game with a close 14-10 win in the last quarter. Betty Kananu was KU’s top point scorer with 15 points the highest in the clash.
In the matches played in the men’s category Mennonites were able to see off UoN Terrorists with a 84-53 win. The first half of the match saw both teams settle for a 31-31 draw after Mennonites took charge in the 1st quarter with 14 points against Terrorists 9 points but the students managed to settle in the 2nd quarter which they won 22-17.
The 3rd quarter saw Mennonites push the pedal and they were a handful for the university students when they sunk in 25 points against Terrorists 15 points. In the last quarter Terror could not simply keep up with their opponents and lost getting only 7 points while Mennonites made sure they secure a win with 28 points.
Kushen Diliwe and Collins Ochieng both had 17 points for Mennonites while Felix Odhiambo had 22 points to his name. Hillary Kubai was Terrorists top point scorer with 22 points also followed by Frank Manyala who had 14 points.
