The Kenyatta University Pirates registered a vital 64-63 win over defending Kenya Secondary School games Champs Upperhill in thrilling extra time action. The game was forced into extra time after both teams were tied at 50-50 at full time.
Each quarter was tightly contested with Pirates winning the first quarter 14-12 before slumping to an 18-11 loss in the second quarter. At half time, Upperhill led 25-30 but were never to be comfortable as Pirates came back stronger in the third quarter.
The university students won 15-11 to narrow down the gap between them to just a point. They went on to cover for that point in the final quarter winning 14-13.
Despite the hot form of Upperhill’s Joseph Onyoro who scored a whooping 30 points in the match, Pirates managed to wade off the resistance in the first period of extra time to win it 10-9 and a final score of 64-63.
In other Division one matches of the day, Kenya Airports Authority were 58-51 winners over Zetech College while Equity Bank lost 43-47 to Umoja.
