UGANDA : Lack of Sponsors Halts Uganda Basketball League

Kampala — The federation of Uganda basketball federation has been forced to postpone the start of this season's basketball league which was due to start this Friday for luck of funds.
Apparently the federation has not reached an understanding with key sponsors of the league after a one year contract they signed with telecom company airtel elapsed last season.
"We can't start on our original date as earlier planned, we are having a series of meeting with some our sponsors this week, we are most likely starting the Friday of 19," Ambrose Tashobya the federation president confirmed.
Finances have been a thorny issue for the basketball federation ever since telecom giant MTN Uganda called an end to their long relationship with basketball in Uganda.
The federation had trouble completing the league last season as they struggled to find sponsors for the play offs before airtel and century bottling company through their Sprite brand came on board.
Airtel had earlier sponsored the regular season
