UGANDA : Baskeball Coaches Set to Learn Fresh Skills

National basketball teams in Uganda are typically dominated by head coaches who are still too few to choose from.
While the women's national team grabbed a 3rd place spotlight at the zone 5 championships in Dar es Salaam this January, emphasis only went to the muscle and not the brains of the team's success.
The coaches Association thus decided to ensure that the brains behind successful teams would be acknowledged by organising an International basketball coaching clinic.
The two-day coaching clinic to be held at Nakasero Primary School comes is timely, with the national basketball league set to start just around the corner.
With so few coaches being produced in the Ugandan league, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association(FUBA) has taken the leap of faith to try and attract more coaches to help grow the sport.
Coaches like Timothy Odeke and Mandy Juruni who have had successful careers at the helm of the national teams and later leading KCCA Leopards and Warriors teams to national league championships are set to benefit.
Conducting the clinic will be Ronnie Owino, an accomplished Kenyan coach who is expected to emphasize communication and training skills to the coaches.
The clinic also targets teaching coaches to relish the role of teacher. As the league continues to get younger, there will be a need for talented young coaches who speak the players' language.
